At Legacy Dental, we believe that a good homecare routine followed by regular cleanings, is a great way to maintain your oral health.
Professional Dental Cleaning
During your cleaning appointment you can expect the following:
-
Removal of calculus (tartar)
Calculus is hardened plaque that is firmly attached to the tooth surface. It forms both above and below the gum line, and can only be removed with dental instruments.
-
Removal of plaque
Plaque is a sticky almost invisible film that forms on the tooth. It is a growing colony of living bacteria, food debris and saliva. The bacteria produce toxins that inflame the gums. This inflammation is the start of periodontal disease.
-
Teeth polishing
Removes stains and plaque that is not removed during tooth brushing and scaling.
During your cleaning appointment, your dentist or hygienist will also review your at-home oral hygiene routine with you, discuss ways in which it could be improved, and answer any questions you may have on the subject.
It's important to us to make sure that you have all the tools and information necessary to keep your smile healthy!
Home Care
A beautiful, healthy smile should last a lifetime. It starts at home by eating balanced meals, reducing the number of snacks you eat, and correctly using the various dental aids that help control plaque and bacteria.
Brushing
We recommend brushing your teeth at least twice throughout the day, but most importantly before you go to bed at night, with a CDA approved soft bristle toothbrush.
We also recommend electric toothbrushes as they are easy to use and efficient at removing plaque. It is as simple as placing the bristles on your teeth and gums and letting the brush do the rest.
Flossing
The best way to clean between the teeth and under the gum line is by flossing daily. Flossing helps to prevent plaque colonies from building up between the teeth.
